A tête-à-tête is a lovely French term for a little intimate conversation between two friends. The conversation should always be light, entertaining, and charming.
My Two Minute Tête-à-Tête is an opportunity to introduce you to some the wonderful humans that I meet along the way. It’s my way of making an introduction and letting you get to know them too.
A little background: I met Alvin at Pitti Uomo in Florence, Italy where modern dandies come to street style. These divinely dapper men are known as ‘Pitti Peacocks’. The fashion press practically falls over themselves to get images of these elegantly outfitted men.
Most of the Pitti Peacocks are very serious. They throw a lot of macho attitude. (Some of them outright refused to pose with me thinking I was too foofy for their image.) Alvin was completely different. He was the only Pitti Peacock who accessorized his fabulous outfits with a great big, mega-watt smile. For me, it was love at first sight and forevermore.
We asked Alvin some questions:
- I met you, couldn’t place the accent. You are a man of the world. How many languages do you speak?
I speak 3 languages: French, English and Dutch.
- In what language do you dream?
I usually dream in a mix of these three languages, which is funny. Isn’t it?
- In such a great big world, where is your happy place?
My happy place is Bangkok city in Thailand. It’s a very modern city, people are easy going and respectful, the culture and the food are just amazing. They are restaurants and supermarkets which are open 24/7 . It’s quite easy to meet people from different parts of the world who hangout together. It’s possible to do anything that you want in Bangkok city.
- What piece of fashion do you never leave home without?
Shoes are to me as important as jewels!
- What are you currently reading? Is it on Kindle, tablet or paper?
I am currently reading “La correspondqnce de la Duchesse d’Orléans née Princesse Palatine” and “Hatshepsut the mysterious queen” who became king in both electronic and paper.
- What is your secret guilty pleasure?
Cardio/Dancing is my guilty pleasure.
- Dogs or cats?
Dogs, cats, never mind. They’re all welcome!
- What is one trend in men’s fashion that you wish would go away?
I wished the black suit trend would go away.
- What is your personal motto.
My motto in every situation is:
First face the bare real truth . Then always remain logical. Finally take responsibility for your actions.
- Where should we look for you next?
You can find me in Brussels or Antwerp Belgium, Paris France, Bangkok Thailand. Or at the next Pitti Uomo in January.
